To find out more, including how to control cookies, see here. The idea was to go back over older methods of design and the simplicity of smaller objects such as a Wine Bottle but to further enhance it this time around using Materials in Unreal to create a more realistic looking object.A bottle is a fast and swift model to create due to the starting primitive and creating the shape can be done fast using swift loops to add extra curve and shape and reducing it in size symmetrically. This method has been tried and tested multiple times and works remarkably well, in addition extra loops can be added using the Chamfer tool just to give an extra rounded look to the edges or changes in the bottles shape.
I then proceeded by duplicating the bottle and shrinking it to fin inside the outer layer. This meant the bottle was made up using two layers and Outer and Inner. Whilst the inside was reserved for the wine itself, so it would be colour Red whilst the exterior layer would have a level of transparency to it to allow the wine to be visible. This meant I could have transparency on some whilst on others such as the labels again I could have solid but with a higher level of gloss so they look like a bottle label once lit and reflecting light. Unlike previous bottles and objects I have made I made light work of unwrapping my objects this time around using pre set unwraps in 3DS Max. The bottle was done by using a Cylindrical maps created to specifically wrap my texture in the manner, which was obviously well suited for the bottles interior and exterior elements. Wine Bottle 3Ds Max Full Unwrap SoThen the Labels where done using a full unwrap so I could control it better to a desired size for Label design later in Photoshop. A more precise unwrap allowed me to export a template for me to work from. Now knowing on some level how to create a Glass Material in Unreal. In addition I know that it will have a much greater look to it as a final piece also, rather than just a regular Transparent Material on its own using a Base colour, Green as an example. I decided from this to do some further research to strengthen this skill and cement my understanding, which will allow me to implement it fully in to my design to get the maximum quality I can from my model. I did this by first perusing some popular brands online to give my an idea of how to design and layout my own. Asking my-self why it is perhaps done that way, what colours look effective together or even alone, what forms of branding exist on the bottle, is there a class of wine to be aware of and would this effect how it is packaged. Finally what write ups exist on the bottle and what does a bottle actually look like lit whilst still containing wine. These where just some of the questions that guided my design. The company producing the wine is called Devyour Wines and the Grapes are from a Vineyard in Italy, Riviera valley. A Family run business for generations, also finally the wines year is 2007. All of this information is pure fiction but it makes for a more interesting Bottle and really makes it stand out and hopefully gives it a glint of realism.
